Congratulations to Serena Williams on winning her 6th Wimbledon title.
In spite of all the racist statements and cat calls, Serena Williams is once again proven her superior athletic skills on the tennis court.

Information provided by William Dillard
Today in History: An early African American Olympian, John Baxter Taylor
John Baxter Taylor Jr. was born on this date in 1884. He was an African American veterinarian and Olympic track star.
From Washington, D.C., he was educated at Central High School, Philadelphia and Brown Preparatory before entering the University of Pennsylvania. Within a few weeks of earning his degree in Veterinary Medicine, Taylor crowned his achievement with Olympic gold at the London games in July 1908. The gold-medal-winning team for the 1,600-meter relay included Nathaniel Cartmell, Melvin Sheppard, William Hamilton and John Baxter Taylor, one of America’s first Black Olympic champions.
A glowing tribute to John Baxter Taylor’s athletic and academic accomplishments appeared in the yearbook of the Vet School Class of ‘08. The yearbook stated: "We of the Class of 1908 are proud and can boast of having one of the greatest athletes the world has ever known." Tragically, John Taylor’s promising career and remarkable achievements were cut short by his death from typhoid pneumonia, December 2, 1908.

op-ed:
Michael Sam wins a big victory
Like it or not, Michael Sam made history when he was drafted by the Rams. When he kissed his male lover on national TV, many claimed they were disgusted. But if he was kissing his female partner would people feel equally disgusted, no? Most Homophobes were upset because football is considered a masculine sport and it makes other players and football lovers feel uncomfortable. Many coaches have rightfully pointed out that gay people participate in both football and basketball, so what is the big deal. Ok, I know, as long as they stay in the closet that makes everybody feel better. I support Michael and I seriously hope he puts a few jocks out of business so that he can gain more respect among his team mates. Jokes aside folks, Michael is going to have a rough time and I hope he is up for the task. If he fails, it will be much harder for others players to come out of the closet. There are a lot of personal drama and pitfalls surrounding the gay life style. He needs to adhere to all NFL rules regarding personal conduct on and off the field. If he maintains good personal conduct and play reasonably well on the field; he will certainly be remembered in the history books. He stated that he just wants to be a good football player without references to his sexual orientation. Good Luck Michael Sam
